The Brief
A visionary entrepreneur came to Fantasy in 2017, at the height of the first crypto wave. The ask — in short — was to design a product that would change how people money. At a time when the crypto space could best be described as the wild west, he wanted to make all the benefits of digital currencies and the blockchain accessible to the masses.

Defining a first of it’s kind, kind of product.
In a space that was basically brand new, we had a lot to learn before we could begin designing. We dove head first into articles, YouTube, user interviews and a 3 day immersive workshop with our client — a prominent crypto investor and expert — to understand the state of the space and the needs of our target customers.
Workshopping
Listening, probing and gaining understanding about user pain points. Identifing opportunities for optimization in the current cryptocurrency workflow.
Landscape Research
A study of sectors, products and people in the market helped us understand areas that would have the greatest implications for our product.
User Interviews
Interviews with early adopters and potential early majority users provided insight into the characteristics, behaviors and goals of our target audience.
A simple and secure, all-in-one wallet and exchange for crypto and cash.
We came out of our discovery phase with a product vision and a feature list for the MVP prototype. We identified the greatest pain points facing our target audience, crypto-bandwagoners as we called them, and saw where we had the opportunity to enter the market with a new product that could actually change the game. While the bar for design in the space was low at the time, the stakes for security were high. There was a real need for a platform that was usable, secure and offered trustworthy customer support for users.

Multiple layers of security and 100% human support when you need it. At a time when most cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges required extensive technical know-how (and a whole lot of risk tolerance) — Cryptobank would be a breath of fresh air.

Making the mysterious, familiar. The intangible, tactile. The exclusive, inclusive.
We had a unique design challenge at hand. For most of human history, money has been a very tangible thing. Even when it turned into paper notes and eventually plastic cards and numbers in a bank account, it was still something people could relate to and hold in some way. It was clear cut whole numbers.
Digital currencies were different. Suddenly you could own just a small piece of a Bitcoin. And it lived somewhere on something called a blockchain and the only way to access it was through a cryptic key. It was new and scary. Our biggest design goal was to make this new currency feel tactile and real. We wanted to reduce people’s anxiety around the unknown. We aimed to help them feel like their money was safe, accessible and in their control.
